Who is responsible
The controller for any personal data processed through this website is Hussy Levente Hunor, a private individual based in Hungary, contactable at hello@blckt.hu. Further details are in the Legal Notice.
The short version
Layz has no accounts, no sign-up, no contact form, no advertising and no analytics. It sets no cookies. Nothing you do here is transmitted to us, because there is no server-side application to transmit it to — the site is a set of static files.
Two things are worth knowing about: a few preferences saved in your own browser, and the fact that the typefaces are delivered by Google.
What is stored in your browser
These entries live in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and we cannot read them. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- layz.themeLight or dark appearance.
- layz.saved.v1Your shortlisted fonts and pairings.
- layz.viewList or grid layout on the fonts page.
- layz.sizePreview size for font specimens.
- layz.consent.v1Your choice about loading Google Fonts.
- layz.introSession-only flag so the intro plays once per visit.
These are functional: they exist only to deliver what you asked the site to do. Under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive they fall within the “strictly necessary” exemption and do not require consent.
Google Fonts
The typefaces shown on this site are served by Google Fonts from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. When a font loads, your browser contacts Google directly and Google receives your IP address, along with the usual request metadata such as your user agent and referring page. This can involve a transfer of data outside the EEA.
Because this is a transfer to a third party rather than something technically necessary, we ask before it happens. On your first visit you may choose Essential only, and no request is made to Google at all — the site falls back to the fonts already installed on your device. You can change your mind at any time from the Cookies & storage page or the link in the footer.
Google's handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Fonts privacy FAQ.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Rackhost Zrt., 6722 Szeged, Tisza Lajos körút 41., Hungary. Like virtually all web servers, the host may record standard access logs containing IP addresses, timestamps, requested files and user agents. These are processed on the basis of legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) for security and to keep the service running.
Rackhost operates inside the European Union, so hosting involves no transfer of data to a third country. Retention of those logs is governed by Rackhost's own privacy policy.
Links away from here
Layz links to Google Fonts, Ko-fi and blckt.hu. Following any of them takes you to a service with its own privacy policy, over which we have no control. No data is shared with them unless you click through.
Your rights
Where personal data is processed, the GDPR gives you the right to access it, correct it, have it erased, restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. You may also withdraw consent at any time and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Hungary that is the Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (NAIH).
In practice we hold almost nothing to act on: your preferences are on your own device, and we operate no database. Requests about server logs should go to hello@blckt.hu.
Changes
If the site starts doing something new with data, this page changes first and the date at the top is updated.
Note for the site owner: this document is an accurate description of how the code behaves, but it is a template and not legal advice. Replace every dashed field and have it reviewed before you rely on it.
